Matrika Yadav to announce his party today

Politburo member of Unified CPN (Maoist), who has been at odds with the party leadership for a long time, will confirm split with announcement of the 'restructured CPN (Maoists)' in the capital on Wednesday, media reports said.

Yadav, who is set to announce the split on the eve of 14th anniversary of the People's War, said he is not forming a new party, rather he is reconstituting it.

"I am the only leader left in CPN (Maoist) as all others have left the party," Yadav said indicating the party's merger with CPN- Ekata Kendra (Masal) on January 13 to form Unified CPN (Maoist).

"The party was the most democratic one in the past, but now it is only in words," added Yadav. "I feel I need to reconstitute the party in order to make the people-oriented revolution a success"

Last week, there were reports in the media that a breakaway faction of the CPN (Maoists) led by Mani Thapa-'Revolutionary Left Wing'-was preparing to hold a national conference to announce a new party. Yadav's connection with this is not clear, although Thapa said he had agreed join them.

The influential leader of Terai, Yadav came into controversy after recapturing land in Siraha district using his cadres even after police had freed the land from them, when he was the Minister for Land Reform and Management. The party leadership had asked Yadav to apologise for his action, after criticism from all sectors.

Yadav refused to apologise. Instead he resigned as minister on September 19, 2008. The party leadership has been trying to appease Yadav in vain. nepalnews.com ta Feb 11 09
