Maoist secretariat meeting postponed; Baidya claims 'wayward' Matrika's
exit won't affect party
The central secretariat meeting of the Unified CPN (Maoist), scheduled to
take place Sunday afternoon, has been postponed due to the busy schedule
of Prime Minister and party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said the meeting would be held on Monday.
The meeting was to take up the recommendations of the party's Organisation
Bureau regarding the upkeep of full-time cadres known as 'whole-timers'
and Young Communist League (YCL) members. Earlier today, a meeting of the
bureau decided to ask the central secretariat, the top body of the party,
to make arrangements for lodging, food and education of the whole-timers
and YCL cadres.
Meanwhile, senior Maoist leader and organisation department chief Mohan Baidya has said that the exit of politburo member Matrika Yadav will not
cause loss it the party. He claimed that Yadav is unlikely to weaken the
Maoist base even in Terai even he has floated a separate party.
Talking to reporters after the Organisation Bureau's meeting, Baidya said
his party allows internal debate on ideological matters but anybody
wanting to quit the party citing ideological differences is free to do so.
He also said that the party could reconsider the action against Yadav if
he apologises for his wayward behavior.
Though Yadav had already left the party, the Unified CPN (Maoist) on
Saturday made formal announcement of his removal from the general membership of the party. nepalnews.com mk Feb 15 09
