Transportation of fuel comes to halt
The Association of Nepal Truck and Tanker Entrepreneurs has stopped
transporting petroleum products from Monday protesting the recent decision
of the government to prohibit 20 years old tankers from carrying such
products.
The association said that the recent announcement of Nepal Oil Corporation
(NOC) to replace old tankers with new ones would render some 200 tankers'
drivers jobless.
The tanker entrepreneurs are also demanding that they should be entitled
to concession in custom related duties to purchase new tankers if the old
ones are to be displaced.
According to the regional office of NOC, Birgunj, the decision to bar old
tankers from transporting petroleum products was taken in order to ensure
swiftness in delivery of petroleum products across various areas of the
country.
Similarly, the talk, held between the representatives of the NOC and the
association on Monday on Amlekhgunj, concluded without any fruitful
result. The two sides sat together with an aim to sort out their
differences and prevent the possible shortage of petroleum products in
near days due to halt in transportation of such products. nepalnews.com nd Feb 17 09
