Maoists against peace and stability: Koirala
Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala has accused Unified CPN
(Maoist) of working against establishing peace and stability in the
country.
Addressing the eastern regional gathering of the party affiliated Nepal
Press Union in Biratnagar Tuesday, Koirala said it is only his party that
works for peace and political stability in Nepal.
Koirala further said the development initiatives can be effectively
implemented only after the country gets a permanent constitution.
In another context, he opposed giving president the executive power of the
government claiming that it would invite the system of totalitarianism.
Nepali Congress will continue advocating for strengthening the power of
parliament with prime minister as the executive head of the government, he
said.
He said his party supports federalism based on economy viability and
geographical locations but not based on ethnicity. Saying that federalism
based on ethnicity will disintegrate the nation, Koirala said the
federalism must promote unity and fraternity. nepalnews.com ia Feb 24 09
