With an aim to facilitate Kathmandu-based consumers of LPG, Nepal Gas Dealersʼ Federation (NGDF) has started distributing consumer identity cards from Wednesday.
Gyaneshwar Aryal, general secretary of the federation launched the campaign by handing over a LPG consumer card to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Aryal said that in the first phase, 30,000 cards are being distributed through 130 gas dealers operating in Kathmandu.
The consumer card distribution will be initiated from Area number one that has Budhanilkantha, Bansbari, Lazimpat, Baluwatar, Thamel, Samakhusi, Gangabu, Sorakhutte, Dhapasi and Banasthali.
Along with seven different areas within the valley, the card distribution will start at Chitwan and Pokhara.
According to Aryal, the consumer card campaign is purely consumer-oriented which will also help in confirming the actual consumption of cooking gas by the house hold consumers. Similarly, it is expected to discourage various malpractices like quantity theft, artificial shortage and supply of poor quality cylinders. The federation also plans to distribute a total of 100,000 cards in a month and extend the campaign to Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts.
The total demand for LPG in Kathmandu stands at 12,000 metric tones. nepalnews.com Feb 26 09
