SC's stay order not yet delivered, new priests perform Puja in Pashupatinath
The stay order issued by the Supreme Court (SC) asking the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) and the government to stop the new priests from performing Puja in the Pashupatinath temple was not delivered to the concerned authorities till Friday evening.
Even though the SC had issued the order on Thursday, it had not dispatched the letter to the authorities notifying of the decision till the office hours on Friday.
Consequently, the PADT-appointed new priest Dr. Bishnu Prasad Dahal and Shaligram Dhakal performed Puja in the temple on Friday.
The appointment of priests by the government has drawn a wrath from assistant priests known as Bhandaris as well as others who have deplored the 'politicisation' of temple matters.
Earlier, the traditional Indian priests of the temple had resigned from their positions. nepalnews.com Jan 03 09
