‘Power centers’ driving wedge between NA and govt: Defense Minister

Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa

Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ has claimed that domestic and foreign ‘power centers’ were engaged in driving wedge between Nepali Army (NA) and the government.

“Many power centers are working to make Maoists a failure. There are hands of such power centers in creating rift between NA and the government,” he said, speaking at a function in Padampur VDC of Chitwan on Saturday.

He did not elaborate.

Asserting that ruling parties themselves were bent on pulling each other’s legs, he added, “But this government is an elected one unlike in the past.”

The minister’s assertions have come amid a row surrounding the recruitment process initiated by NA. While the Defense Ministry has asked the NA to stop the process, the latter has said it cannot do so since the process is already midway.

The Ministry had given the order after Maoist commanders accused NA of violating the agreements by making new recruitments. The NA, on the other hand, has said that it is merely filling the positions that had become vacant. nepalnews.com Jan 04 09
