UML says NA can fill vacant positions
The central committee meeting of a major coalition ally Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) has decided that the current process of recruitment initiated by Nepali Army (NA) to fill the vacant positions does not constitute violation of any agreement.
The meeting passed a special proposal deciding that the recruitment process be allowed to continue.
The UML has concluded that there should not be any controversy over the recruitment process.
Secretary of the central secretariat of UML, Yubaraj Gyawali quoted party general secretary Jhal Nath Khanal as cautioning the Prime Minister and Defense Minister against making public comments that could demoralise the national army. He added that though the NA cannot make new recruitments as per the agreements, it can recruit to fill the positions that had become vacant.
The UML's decision has come amid the row over NA recruitment. While the Defense Ministry asked the NA to stop the recruitment, the NA has said that since it is only filling vacant positions, it cannot stop the process midway. nepalnews.com Jan 06 09
