Govt to implement Working Journalists Act 'very soon'
Minister for Information and Communication Krishna Bahadur Mahara has said the government would enforce the Working Journalists Act very soon.
Speaking at a programme in the capital Sunday, Mahara, who is also the government spokesperson, said the Act is ready and that it would come into effect once the cabinet approves the set of regulations for implementation of the Act.
He also informed that the cabinet would very soon take up draft regulations.
The Federation of Nepalese Journalists and other media rights groups have long been demanding implementation of the Act, which will make it mandatory for owners of media outlets to provide with service contracts to the journalists and guarantee them standard minimum salary and other benefits. nepalnews.com Jan 11 09
