Govt to ban heaters, AC and refrigerators
To reduce the unnecessary consumption of the electricity in government offices, the government has taken steps to stop the use of refrigerators, air conditioners or heaters inside offices.
Media reports say, the ministry of water resources will shortly propose to restrict all such equipments being used in ministries, departments, corporations and other government offices.
In most government offices, senior officers generally use heaters during winters and air conditioners during summers.
Reports further say, the government is likely to decide on replacing all bulbs and tube lights in government offices by CFL bulbs in an efforts to reduce the consumption of electricity. Experts have pointed out that power consumption can be reduced heavily if government encouraged people to use CFL bulbs.
The government has vowed to reduce the 16-hours daily load shedding to below 10 hours within the next two months. The power outage has caused many industries and other businesses to close, affected surgical services in hospitals and disrupted telephone services. nepalnews.com Jan 19 09
