Govt proposes dividing leadership of local bodies among political parties
The government has proposed dividing the local bodies' leadership among the political parties.
It has proposed to allocate the leadership of 23 districts to the Maoists, 16 each to Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) and Nepali Congress (NC), five to Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), two each to Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and CPN-Marxist Leninist and one each to every party that has bagged at least one percent of total votes under proportional representation system in the last year's election.
Minister for Local Development Ram Chandra Jha made this proposal at the meeting with 16 parties represented at CA, on Tuesday.
As major parties have reacted favourably to his proposal, they have now agreed to form a taskforce to finalise which party should get to lead which districts. nepalnews.com Jan 21 09
