Traders close down Jogmuni custom point

Import and export from Jogmuni in Biratnagar has come to a complete halt on Monday following protests by some businessmen.

The traders began protests after police surveillance team confiscated clothes and other goods being imported from India illegally. The confiscated goods have been submitted to the custom department.

The traders last night also burnt down a custom office at the border leading to clashes between the protestors and police. The demonstrators pelted stones at the police. Police, this morning, arrested three people on charges of pelting stones.

Jogmuni is one of the major revenue generation custom points. However, on several pretexts, business groups, retailers, labourers and political parties have been obstructing regular business because of which state has lost billions in the last few weeks. nepalnews.com ia Jan 26 08
