10,000 tax payers identified
The Inland Revenue Department has said it has identified 10,000 prospective tax payers through the Voluntary Declaration of Income Source (VDIS) programme.
These include share traders, real estate agents, brick-kiln operators, doctors, engineers, consultants, college operators, founders and share-holders of banks, financial institutions, and more, according to tax officials.
The government had announced a waiver on the inquiry of the source(s) of income earned before the end of fiscal year 2007/2008, if the tax-payers voluntary declared their income and paid 10 percent tax on the same through the last budget speech. It aims to earn revenue of at least one billion through the programme. nepalnews.com ta 27 Jan 09
