CIAA to adopt measures against corruption in MoCS
The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has said that it would soon come up with monitoring programmes to check corruption in the Ministry of Commerce and Supply (MoCS).
“The CIAA is receiving lots of complaints regarding corrupt practices in the MoCS. So, we will start monthly monitoring of the ministry,” revealed Lalit Bahadur Limbu, acting chief commissioner of the CIAA while speaking at an interaction programme on “Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and Transparency” held in the capital.
Speaking at the same occasion, Digamber Jha, managing director, NOC, said that corporation has averted itself from doing downward revision of the prices of petroleum products in domestic market to prevent back flow of the products to India due to price differences in bordering towns in Nepal and India.
The NOC, the sole supplier of the petroleum products in the country, has been registering profit in recent days due to a steep decline in the prices of oil in the international market. Earlier, the accumulative loss it incurred was about Rs 15 billion.
Saroj Raj Pandey, president, Nepal Petroleum Dealers’ Association (NPDA), accused the MoCS of indulging itself in massive corruption. He also claimed that the NPDA prevented the ministry from embezzling some Rs 700 million by taking initiations to equalize the price of diesel and kerosene. nepalnews.com Jan 28 09
