NA recommends promotion of Maj Gen Singh
Nepal Army has recommended the promotion of Major General Toran Bahadur Singh to the post of Lieutenant General to fill the post left vacant after General Kul Bahadur Khadka retired.
A board comprising of Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal and Lt General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung forwarded the recommendation to defence ministry last week. Defence minister Bidhya Devi Bhandari is not happy with the recommendation as Singh is accused of Human Rights violations, sources say.
Gen Singh was the chief of Bhairav Nath Battalion, which is accused of Human Rights violations. The battalion has not made the whereabouts of 49 people detained in 2003.
The UN had refused Singh as the Force commander in a UN Peace mission in Daffor for his alleged involvement in HR violation. nepalnews.com Jul 01 09
