Biggest hydropower project in limbo
The country's biggest hydroelectric project (if constructed) Nau Mure has
remained neglected for the past 20 years, national news agency RSS reported
Wednesday.
Construction of the project having a capacity to generate 245-MW of
electricity has not started yet, though it was surveyed in 2045 BS.
The 144-MW Kali Gandaki 'A' Hydroelectric Project is the largest hydropower
project constructed so far in the country. The project located at Juluke VDC
in Arghakhanchi district is also considered Nepal's model one from natural
diversity, ecological and tourism point of view.
According to water experts, electricity can be generated in Nau Mure in
equal amount during the summer and monsoon seasons.
Meanwhile, construction of Kowakhola Micro Hydropower Porject has been
completed in eastern Tehrathum district.
The 63-kw hydroelectric project, based at Sakranti VDC, came into operation
with the total cost of Rs. 13,900,000.
Energy Development Branch, Tehrathum, lent Rs. 6,072,600 financial support,
the District Development Committee Rs. 5,320,000, locals Rs. 1,200,000 and
