UNSC ambassadors call on UNMIN chief
Ambassadors of members of the UN Security Council (China, France, Japan, Russia, United Kingdom and United States) met with the Representative of the Secretary-General to Nepal, Karin Landgren, in the capital Thursday to discuss the peace process and the future of UNMIN.
They expressed their concerns that the progress anticipated in Security Council Resolution 1864, which extended the mandate of UNMIN until 23 July, had not materialised. This had made it harder for UNMIN to complete its mandate and to depart in a timely fashion.
According to a statement issued today, the ambassadors expressed their continuing support for Nepal’s peace process, while calling on all political parties to take concrete steps to create the conditions conducive to UNMIN’s departure. nepalnews.com Jul 02 09
