NTV employees protest appointment of executive chairman
Nepal Television Employees´ Union (NTEU) have staged demonstration against the government decision to appoint Kundan Aryal as the executive chairman of NTV and prevented the latter from entering office, Thursday.
The protest is not against the individual but against the government’s decision to allow executive power to the chairman, the agitating employees said. They are demanding the executive powers should lie on the general manager, the senior most permanent staff of the organisation.
Wednesday’s cabinet meeting had appointed Aryal as the executive chairman of NTV.
Earlier, the erstwhile Maoist-led government was forced to revoke its decision to appoint Rishi Raj Baral as executive chairman of the TV after mounting pressure from the employees. Later it appointed Purna Bahadur Ghartimagar as the chairman without executive powers. nepalnews.com Jul 03 09
