NSU cadres demonstrate against alleged shooting
Students affiliated to Nepal Students’ Union, the student wing of Nepali Congress, have staged demonstrations and obstructed vehicular movement Monday in front of various colleges in capital Kathmandu protesting against alleged shooting at one of their cadres by UML affiliated All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU) cadres at Tri Chandra College on Sunday.
The college had turned into a battleground Sunday afternoon with NSU and ANNFSU cadres engaging in violent clashes over the tender for construction of a building in the campus. Police had to fire four rounds of bullets into the air to control the situation. Both the student groups have blamed each other for provocation.
The situation is tense in front Tri Chandra College and few other colleges in Kathmandu on Monday with students burning tires, shouting slogans and obstructing traffic. A large number of security personnel have been deployed in front of the colleges.
Sunday’s clash started after a group of NSU supporters tried to prevent an ANNFSU team from registering the tender for construction new rooms at the Chemistry Building. But, NSU has said ANNFSU students attacked its cadres when they were going to register the tender.
The students also torched chief's room and vandalised the office of the Free Students Union (FSU). Eyewitnesses said some students were brandishing swords and knives.
Bhim Singh Gurung, a central member of NSU, has been seriously injured in the clash. NSU has claimed he was was shot by the ANNFSU students. nepalnews.com
