PU postpones exams as ANNISU-R padlocks university offices; KU, too, shut
after locals' protest
Examinations scheduled by the Purbanchal University (PU) have been
postponed for indefinite period after Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National
Independent Student Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) padlocked the
university offices.
The university administration said examinations for all levels have been
postponed after the university head office in Biratnagar and its city
office in Kathmandu were padlocked by ANNISU-R.
The university said it was unable to hold the exams in the present
circumstances. The strike has not only postponed the exams but also
created problems in distributing the certificates of those students who
had passed.
The student body blamed the university for not implementing the past
agreement which included student representation in the university
assembly.
Meanwhile, locals in Dhulikhel barred the staff of the Kathmandu
University from entering the university on Tuesday.
The locals have demanded that the university must provide employment
opportunities, give scholarship for local students and provide economic
support for the development in the area. nepalnews.com
