US envoy holds farewell meetings with PM, President

US ambassador to Nepal Nancy J. Powell, who is returning to US on Thursday after completing her tenure in Kathmandu, held separate meetings with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and President Dr Ram Baran Yadav Wednesday.

She met PM Nepal at the PMO in Singha Durbar, discussing Nepal's peace process, US assistance to Nepal and the constitution-drafting process.

According to PM's foreign affairs advisor Rajan Bhattarai, ambassador Powell pledged to make more efforts to increase the US assistance to the new government in Nepal.

PM Nepal on his part praised the US ambassador's role during her tenure in Kathmandu.

The US ambassador also called on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at the latter's office, Shital Niwas, and discussed bilateral relations and the ongoing political process in Nepal.

Powell is returning to US where she will hold a higher office at the State Department, as the director general of the US Foreign Service. nepalnews.com
