Private school teachers shut valley schools

Teachers affiliated to Institutional School Teachers’ Union (ISTU) have shut down all private schools in Kathmandu valley on Monday protesting against police intervention at demonstration in front of St. Xaviers’ School, Jawalakhel yesterday.

Police had arrested six teachers affiliated ISTU including its chairman Hom Kumar Thapa accusing the latter of obstructing vehicular movement when they were staging demonstrations in front of the school on Sunday.

The teachers had staged demonstrations protesting against the school’s decision to fire three teachers Sudhir Khanal, Binayak Chhetri and Buddhi Subedi. They had tried to obstruct the movement of the school buses.

Earlier, St. Xaviers’ school had fired the three teachers accusing them of violating discipline. Teaching learning has been affected in the school due to the teachers’ agitations.

On Sunday, parents had also staged demonstration in front of the school demanding regular teaching learning activities without any obstruction. nepalnews.com
