Hundreds of passengers stranded in Birgunj-Pathlaiya road
Locals of Jitpur in Bara district have closed down the Birgunj-Pathlaiya road section of Tribhuvan Highway Monday, bringing vehicular movement in the most busiest section of the highway into a complete halt.
They blocked the highway demanding proper compensation to the family of a victim who died in a road mishap in Jogimara of Dhading district recently.
Reports said that the protestors were enraged at the delay in providing compensation to the family of Amar Paswan, 40, of Jitpur-3, who was killed in the accident, and said they will continue blocking the highway until the issue of compensation is not resolved.
Hundreds of passengers coming from or heading to Kathmandu and various other districts in the country have been stranded after the kin of the victims and other locals blocked the highway since early today morning.
Blockades like this have become common in the country's highways under one or other pretence, but mostly due to inablity of local authorities to settle the dispute regarding accident cases occuring in the highways.
Passengers have been stranded in Nepalese highways for hours and sometimes even days owing to blockades like these, without getting any respite from the government. nepalnews.com June 01 09
