CEC Pokharel resigns
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Bhoj Raj Pokharel resigned from his post
Wednesday.
Pokharel met President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at the latter's office in the
afternoon and tendered his resignation. Pokharel cited 'family reasons'
for his resignation.
The President has approved the CEC's resignation, according to the Office
of the President.
Speaking at a news conference at the Election Commission, Pokharel said he
resigned as he had fulfilled the responsibility to conduct the Constituent
Assembly elections.
Pokharel is credited with conducting the historic CA elections in April
2008 and the by-elections this April in a largely free and fair
