Parties, student bodies to send delegation to inspect encroached land
Parties have agreed to send an all-party delegation to Dang for inspection of the land encroached by Indian security forces, displacing thousands of Nepalese from their land.
The all-party meeting held Thursday morning at the invitation of Unified CPN (Maoist) named Maoist lawmaker and chairman of the CA committee on protection of national interests Amik Sherchan to lead the delegation with one each representative each from all parties. The committee will visit the encroached area by Saturday.
Terming the Indian excesses as ‘attack on nationality and sovereignty of Nepal’, the parties condemned the Indian behaviour and urged concerned authorities to make arrangements for immediate rehabilitation of the displaced people. The parties have also asked the government to provide security to Nepalese citizens in those areas, a statement issued after the meeting reads.
The parties further asked government to make more diplomatic efforts for scientific verification of the border with India.
Madhes-based parties Madhesi Janadhikar Forum, Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party and Sadbhawana Party did not attend the meeting while Nepali Congress leader Narahari Acharya left shortly after meeting started.
Similarly, the meeting of the 12 students bodies excluding Maoist-aligned All Nepal National Independent Union (Revolutionary), held at the office of Nepal Student Union decided to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal condemning the Indian encroachment.
The student bodies will also submit a memorandum to Indian embassy in Kathmandu and send a team for field visit to Dang.
In the meantime, villagers displaced from their homes in the border area along Dang due to atrocities by the Indian border security forces have agreed to return home after an assurance of security from Nepalese authorities.
The local administration in Dang has assured the villagers to ensure security, supply of essentials and developmental works in the village at an all-party meeting organised in Dang Wednesday evening.
Roshan Pun, coordinator of a struggle committee of the displaced villagers said, the villagers would return home within a week if the administration showed positive signs on implementation of the agreement. nepalnews.com June 04 09
