Maoists close mid-western districts
The Unified CPN (Maoist) has closed eight districts of the Bheri-Karnali region in western Nepal Sunday as part of their ongoing protest against the President’s intervention in the erstwhile government’s decision to dismiss the army chief.
Transportation has been halted and businesses including educational institutions and markets have remained closed in Mugu, Humla, Jumla, Kalikot, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Surkhet and Dailekh districts due to the bandh.
No flights have taken off from Surkhet airport after cadres of Bheri-Karnali Rajya Samiti of the Maoists ordered the airport staff not to operate any flights today.
The Maoists have been launching the agitation demanding the President’s move be discussed in the parliament from June 3. Today is the last day of the first phase of its agitation. Further protest programmes would be announced after the upcoming meeting of the party politburo, Maoist spokesperson Dina Nath Sharma said. nepalnews.com Jun 14 09
