Indefinite strike hits Terai life
Life in some Terai districts was severely affected Tuesday due to an
indefinite general strike called by Pichada Barga Mahasangh (Federation of
Backward Communities Nepal).
Reports said that members as well as supporters of the left-leaning outfit
called the indefinite Madhesh banda demanding various rights for backward
communities in the country.
Protestors forced the closure of market, factories and schools in Bara and
Prasa districts and shut down all transport by burning tyres along the
roads.
They also brought vehicular movement at Nawalpur in Sarlahi district along
the East-West Highway into a grinding halt by creating road blocks.
Meanwhile, reports coming in from Lahan say police held three individuals,
including district chairman of the Federation Bijaya Kumar Mahato, while
they were enforcing an indefinite general strike in Lahan bazaar today
morning. nepalnews.com June 16 09
