Nepali Congress vice president Ram Chandra Poudel has said he will field candidacy for the post of parliamentary party leader, the election of which is scheduled for this Saturday.

Speaking at the Reporters’ Club on Tuesday, Poudel claimed he has support form majority of the leaders and party members including party president Girija Prasad Koirala.
Informing that party president Koirala has hinted that he would not contest for the post, Poudel said he would not withdraw from filing candidacy even if Koirala supported Sher Bahadur Deuba or Kul Bahadur Gurung for the job.
He further said acting party president Shushil Koirala must work actively and use the authority he has been entrusted with. Stating that his party must now adopt the principles of collective leadership to be a role model in Nepalese politics, Poudel said they would support any initiatives from Shushil Koirala intended to strengthen the party.
He objected the Maoist call for repeated strikes in various districts, and mentioned that the country will get a democratic constitution only after the issue of integration of Maoist combatants is resolved. nepalnews.com ia June 16 09
