Gurung announces candidacy for NC PP leader
Nepali Congress general secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung has announced his candidacy for parliamentary party leader at the elections to be held Saturday.
Gurung announced his candidacy by organising a press conference in Kathmandu, Wednesday afternoon. Gurung claimed his victory was certain, as he had substantial number of CA members in his support.
NC vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba have already announced their candidacy.
Interestingly, Gurung urged both Poudel and Deuba to retract their candidacy and support him as the latter two had held important portfolios in the government and the party many times in the past.
With Gurung’s announcement of candidacy, it has become certain at least three leaders will contest for the post of PP leader. Nara Hari Acharya and his supporters are also contemplating to field a candidate from their camp at the elections.
Party president Girija Prasad Koirala has said he would neither vie for the post nor support any individual in the PP elections. nepalnews.com ta Jun 17 09
