Koirala urges consensus on NC PP leader election
Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala met the four candidates of the Parliamentary Party (PP) at his Maharajgunj residence and asked them to contest in a friendly manner even if they are unable to find a consensus candidate.
According to NC leader Krishna Prasad Situala, during the meeting Koirala emphasised that the party should give a message of unity and, for that, the election for PP leader should be conducted in a friendly manner.
The octogenarian Congress leader also hinted that he was not willing to become the parliamentary leader this time, saying he intended to keep a distance from active politics.
NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, vice president Ram Chandra Poudel, general secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung and central leader Suprabha Ghimire have announced their candidacy for the PP leader to be elected on Saturday.
Earlier in the morning, Deuba had held meeting with some lawmakers in an attempt to win their support for him.
