Maoist politburo divided over 'people's revolt'
The politburo of the Unified CPN (Maoist) stands divided over the party's
controversial policy of waging 'people's revolt' to establish 'people's
republic'.
During the politburo meeting on Saturday, according to a source, senior
leader Mohan Baidya, who leads a hardliner faction in the party,
criticised party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal's political report saying it
does not sufficiently highlight the revolt plan.
Baidya was expected to table a written proposal countering Dahal's report,
but he didn't do so in today's meeting.
In his 19-page political report, the Maoist chairman, who commands a slim
majority in the politburo, has mentioned writing of a people-oriented
constitution as the immediate priority, underling the need to continue the
struggle to achieve this.
Another senior leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai defended Dahal's dossier saying
that shifting attention to a 'revolt' in the current situation might
stifle the achievements made so far.
The politburo meeting, which started four days earlier, has been postponed
till Monday. nepalnews.com mk June 20 09
