Koirala tells Poudel to keep NC intact
Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala has instructed the newly elected Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel to move ahead by keeping the party unity intact.
"The party president asked Poudel not to become arrogant with the victory, but engage in efforts to clear out differences within the party and keep it united," a NC leader quoted Koirala as saying during a meeting between the two leaders today morning.
A day after being elected Parliamentary Party leader securing 61 votes on Saturday night, NC Vice President Poudel had gone to Koirala's residence in Maharajgunj to seek blessings from the aging leader. Poudel had on Saturday evening defeated former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba by 13 votes in the re-run of the voting at the NC PP office at Singha Durbar.
The first round of polling had seen Deuba securing 45 votes to 39 that of Poudel as other two contestants - Kul Bahadur Gurung and Suprabha Ghimire - were out of the fray as each of them secured 12 votes in the election for the highest post in the parliamentary party.
Following his victory in the election, an elated Poudel had said, "I will make all efforts to ensure that the party moves ahead united." nepalnews.com June 21 09
