Badri remains on top in chess championship

Badri Lal Nepali continued to hold on to his comfortable lead at the completion of the seventh round of the Third Madan Memorial National Youth Rating Chess Championship. Nepali is enjoying a sole lead with six points (26 progressive points). Nepali maintained his winning streak on Tuesday with a win over Shyam Shrestha but later on tied with him in the seventh round. Nepali, with black dice, employed Sicilian tactics to keep Shrestha, using a white dice, under constant pressure.

Shrestha gave an opening to Nepali when he finally lost his pawn in the 35th move. Nepali took the advantage and forced Shrestha to give up in the 48th move.

Similarly, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha has also maintained his unbeaten run in the championship, but is behind Nepali with 25 and a half progressive points.

Shrestha began the day with a draw in his first game against Niraj Niraula, but lost his second to Ganesh Man Duwal.

Meanwhile, Rajan Chettri ended the day with a third position with 23 progressive points.

He played remarkably and won both his games on Tuesday.

Ratna Byanjankar, Nirja Niraula, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Ravindra Shakya, Keshav Shrestha are tied at fourth place with five points each. nepalnews.com June 24 09
