Number of mental patients rising in PLA
The number of mental patients in Maoist affiliated People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is increasing in the recent months, Annapurna Post daily reported.
According to doctors at the Mental Hospital in Lagankhel, Lalitpur, up to ten PLA cadres have been coming for treatment every month in the past six months.
A senior doctor at the hospital, Dr Mohan Raj Shrestha, said a mental illness called Psychosis was spotted among most of the PLA cadres coming for treatment.
Dr Shrestha said Psychosis is a serious mental illness aggravated by prolonged isolation from society and family, pessimism on future, poignant memory of the war and jealousy of contemporaries.
There are some 19,000 PLA cadres in seven large and 21 small cantonments across the country. The cadres declared disqualified by UNMIN verification have also come for treatment. nepalnews.com Mar 03 09
