Japanese ambassador to Nepal Tatsuo MIZUNO handed over the aid, worth over
234 million rupees, to Nepal government officials at a function in
Kathmandu on Friday.
The assistance has been provided with the objective of enabling the Nepal
government to procure rice and supply it to the needy population living in
the food deficit districts of Nepal, the Japanese embassy said.
The full volume of rice has already been transported to Kathmandu (20%),
Birgunj (20%), Nepalgunj (20%) and Surkhet (40%). Nepal Food Corporation will transport and distribute the rice in hilly and mountainous regions
which have been reeling under food shortage.
Speaking at the handover function, MIZUNO expressed his belief that the
food aid to Nepal would help ease the problem of food shortages in the
country; ultimately benefiting the needy population living in the mountain
and remote areas. nepalnews.com Mar 06 09
