FM talks about dual citizenship to NRNs
Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav has said the government will soon bring out a flexible policy on dual citizenship and property ownership to Non Residential Nepalese (NRN).
Yadav was speaking at a programme organised by NRNs in the Netherlands on Saturday. He also requested the NRNs in the Netherlands to increase investments in Nepal.
The NRN community has been demanding dual citizenship for quite some time. Although, the Nepali government has accepted to allow dual citizenship in principal, it has been procrastinating on taking a concrete decision for many years.
Lack of dual citizenship is taken as the major hindrance to attract investment from NRNs to Nepal.
According to the current regulations, a Nepali citizen has to renounce Nepali citizenship and give up ownership of property owned in Nepal before accepting citizenship of another country. nepalnews.com Mar 09 09
