Over 150 nominations filed for by-elections
Some 150 candidates-representing various political parties and independent-have filed their nominations for six vacant CA seats to be filled by April 10 by-elections, on Saturday.
Nineteen candidates have filed their nominations in Kaski -1 including Krishna Bahadur Gurung of the Unified CPN (Maoist), Dipak Gurung of Nepali Congress (NC) and Shaligram Poudel of the CPN (UML).
Likewise, Jayaram Yadav of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), Shiva Kumar Mandal of the Unified CPN (Maoist), Jagannath Singh of NC, Umesh Giri of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) and Jeewan Ghimire of the CPN (UML), among others have filed their nominations in Morang -5.
From Morang-7, two dozen candidates including Dr Shekhar Koirala of NC, Bijay Kumar Biswas (Tharu) of Unified CPN (Maoist), Binod Dhakal of CPN (UML), Chum Narayan Tabdar of MJF and Hari Narayan Shah of TMLP have filed their nominations.
Sixteen people have filed their candidacy in Kanchanpur-4 including Harish Thakulla from Unified CPN (Maoist), Nirudevi Pal of CPN (UML), Yagyaraj Joshi of NC and Hari Kishan Damai of MJF.
With 55 candidates filing nominations, Dhanusha-5 saw the largest number of candidates from among the six constituencies. Dr Chandra Mohan Yadav of NC, Raghubir Mahaseth of CPN (UML), Shree Krishna Yadav of TMLP, Mahadev Yadav of Unified CPN (Maoist), Sitaram Ray Yadav of MJF and Ram Govinda Yadav of Nepal Sadbhawana Party, among others, filed their candidacy.
Dr Yadav of NC is the son of incumbent President Dr Ram Baran Yadav. NC leaders of the district are unsatisfied over the selection of Dr Yadav as the party’s candidate. Accusing the party leadership of promoting a person without any background in the party based on nepotism, many district level leaders have resigned from their posts.
In Rolpa-2, Santosh Budha Magar of Unified CPN (Maoist), Gangaram Dangi of NC, Hari Prasad Gharti Magar of UML and Dal Bir Pun of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), among others, have filed their nominations.
