Hirachan announces candidacy for NRN president
Vice President of the Non Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) International Coordination Committee (ICC) Dev Man Hirachan has announced his candidacy for president of the association.
NRNA will hold its next convention in October this year in Kathmandu to elect new executives. Dr Upendra Mahato has been leading the association since its inception some six years back. Since the organisation’s statute does not allow a person for more than three terms, Dr Mahato is obvious to open the way for new leadership.
In his announcement, Hirachan from Japan said, it is the obligation of the NRNs to play constructive role in determining the future political system of the country, project prosperous economic vision for establishment of free and justifiable society and for ending disparity, poverty and injustice that has plagued the Nepalese society for years.
He said Nepalese who landed in foreign lands under unavoidable circumstances and received nationality therein should be given the right to attain Nepalese nationality and hold assets back in Nepal.
He cited the challenges for NRN in the days to come as the country moves ahead towards drafting a new constitution which he said must ensure investment friendly environment, annulment of the double taxation system, determination of the constitutional status of NRNs and environment for using their skills and knowledge in productive sector back in the country.
Hirachan, who had been in the leadership position of NRN since 2003, stated he deserves to take the top job. nepalnews.com ia Mar 23 09
