Maoists disrupt House proceedings
Maoist lawmakers disrupted the legislature parliament proceedings on Tuesday against what they called the unconstitutional move by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.
Seeking special time with speaker Subas Nemwang at the beginning of the House session, deputy leader of the Maoist parliamentary party Narayan Kaji Shrestha condemned president’s move. He said his party will not allow the regular session of the parliament until president withdraws his move.
Saying that president’s move has challenged the civilian supremacy, he claimed the prime minister resigned not because of lack of majority vote but on ethical grounds after the president challenged the decision of the government, which holds executive power.
He claimed the new government will not be formed until president corrects his action.
Following his statement, Maoist lawmakers picketed the rostrum chanting slogans against the president’s move to reinstate the Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katawal, who was sacked by the government.
Speaker Nemwang then announced the postponement of the House session until tomorrow. He even failed to read out the letter from president’s office informing the parliament about prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s resignation. nepalnews.com ia May 05 09
