Maoists thrash NC, UML members in Banke
Unified CPN (Maoist) cadres have threatened and thrashed members of CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress who did not leave their villages in Bardiya district.
Maoist cadres allege these two parties of supporting the move of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav to reinstate army chief Rookmangud Katawal.
The Maoists attacked NC’s Basanta Raj Bhatt, former VDC chairman and UML member Gopal Silwal, NC district member Krishna Paudel and an NC-affiliated teacher Keshav Paudel in the district. Injured Bhatt has reached Nepalgunj for security and treatment. According to him, some 60 Khukuri wielding Maoist cadres attacked him at 11:30 p.m. and looted Rs 27,000.
The unruly Maoist cadres also vandalised the house of Anantaram Tharu alleging him of allowing his house to be used as an NC village unit office.
YCL cadres have distributed pamphlets stating that they would continue their action in Banke and Bardiya districts.
Maoists have issued similar threat in Ramechap and Kailali as well. nepalnews.com May 10 09
