Nemwang again asks PM to end House deadlock
Speaker Subas Chandra Nemwang met caretaker Prime Minister and Maoist
chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Wednesday also, urging him to end the deadlock
in the legislature parliament.
Nemwang went to the PM's residence, Baluwatar, Wednesday morning to ask
the PM to find a way out of the deadlock so that it would pave the way for
formation of a new government.
However, Baluwatar sources said the PM sought the Speaker's support in
convincing other parties to debate a resolution against the President's
move. The Maoist party is set to register the resolution at the parliament
secretariat later today.
PM Dahal argued that parliamentary proceedings have been disrupted not
because of the Unified CPN (Maoist)'s interest but because of the denial
of other parties to discuss the resolution against the President's order
against the dismissal of army chief.
22 parties have been putting pressure on the Speaker to sort out the
crisis or exercise the authority he has been given by the law to
facilitate the formation of a new government.
The Speaker had met Dahal yesterday also, asking the latter to end the
House deadlock to facilitate the formation of new government.
It is the responsibility of the PM to end the House deadlock as he is the
leader of the parliament, Nemwang told media after the meeting.
The meeting came hours after the leaders of 22 political parties met
Speaker Nemwang and urged him to run the House using marshals or elect the
Prime Minister from outside the parliament. The speaker refused both
proposals saying electing PM from outside the parliament is against the
norms and spirits of the Interim Constitution and tradition.
Speaking at a different programme in Pokhara Tuesday afternoon, speaker
Nemwang had said the obstruction of the House in the name of taking the
President's move to the parliament is meaningless as the very issue would
be the first thing to be discussed in the parliament after its normal
business resumes. nepalnews.com ia/ta May 20 09
