Schools across the valley have remained closed Sunday due to strike called
by the Maoist-affiliated Institutional Schools' Teachers' Union (ISTU) and
the Nepal Educational Republican Forum (NERF).
The two teachers' unions shut down the schools demanding permanent status,
appointment letters, and pay as per government scale for private school
teachers.
The strike has been called to draw government's attention towards
enforcement of agreements signed on April 2, 2007.
The teachers organised a protest rally before submitting a memorandum to
the education secretary in the afternoon. nepalnews.com ta May 31 09
