Company Profile
Incessant Rain: Growing Animatedly

“For any forward-looking business entity, human resource is the most vital tool to excel. And, the same notion best describes the achievements Incessant Rain Animation Studios (P) Ltd (IRAS) has reaped in a relatively shorter period,” elatedly says Kiran Joshi, CEO.

Joshi, former Disney Head of Digital Production, who runs Pink Slip Productions (a company based in California and is also an executive of KDA Ventures Inc., an US-based investment company) collaborated with Sanjib Raj Bhandari, CEO of Mercantile Communications Ltd and Suyog Tuladhar, CEO of Transcube International Pvt. Ltd to set up IRAS.

Equipped with a state-of-the-art animation studio and a pool of polished professionals, Incessant Rain is developing and producing digital animated properties for theatrical, television, home entertainment and interactive needs for a wide array of both national and international clients.

The company’s production services include conceptual designs, storyboarding, character designs, layout, modeling/texturing, animation, VFX, lighting and post production.

“As we pay scrupulous attention to every minute detail of both creative and technological aspects, we have been executing a computer-generated imagery of the highest order,” boasts Joshi, who is also a 17 year veteran at Walt Disney, US.

According to him, 3D stereoscopic work is yet another forte of Incessant Rain.

Apart from producing several original contents for feature films, shorts and TV series, the company has even successfully catered to some high-profile international clients like Disney.

According to Joshi, the passion with which his team is harmonizing artistic sense with technological ability in its task has enabled Incessant Rain to align itself with changing dynamics of the global animation industry.

“We are now well position to compete aggressively in the international arena. The enthusiastic response which we are getting from some our international clients has further stimulated us to move ahead to set new benchmarks in Nepali animation sector,” says Joshi.

Incessant Rain Animation Studios team consists of the country’s well-recognized graphics artists and technologists backed by leading entrepreneurs.

The client base of the company is also growing steadily as it is now focusing itself towards tapping the animation prospects of local market.

A majority chunk of the projects the company has undertaken are international. But now it is also devising strategies to cash in on various aspects of Nepali society through animation, divulges Joshi.

According to him, the company is planning to project many great folktales and mythical stories of Nepal to the western world in an aesthetically animated mode.

Incessant Rain is also girding up its loins to give the form of animation to traditional Nepali games like Baagchaal.

“If the government is ready to provide basic infrastructural facilities, we can well insert universal appeal to the rich cultural and traditional values by animating them. In this way, we can market these artistically animated values globally which can ultimately support the country’s economy,” remarks Joshi.

“In India, the annual turnover of animation industry stands at US $ 1 billion. The Indian government is encouraging its software industry and marketing its animation industry,” relates Joshi adding,” However, in Nepali context, the concerned authorities appear virtually unaware about the significance of Nepali animation sector to boost up the economic sector.”

Joshi also believes that TV animation, film animation, digital post-production, advertising, gaming and visual effects also offer job opportunities to those youths who can blend their artistic ability with technological advancement.

The prevailing global trends suggest that those countries which can produce great quality at a low cost are receiving substantial volume of animation related projects.

“As such, if the government ensures sound ICT (Information and Communication Technology) infrastructure, Nepali animation sector can also grow exponentially which will, undoubtedly, augur well to the country’s economy,” concludes Joshi. nepalnews.com nd Apr 01 09
