Makalu aircraft crash-lands in Mugu airport; no casulties
A Makalu Air aircraft crash-landed at Talcha airport in Mugu district at 16:40 pm Monday.
The accident occurred as the Cessna Caravan was landing. The aircraft skidded off the airport as it touched down, hit a rock and caught fire, but it was immediately doused by security personnel and locals at the airport.
Captain P.J Shah and nine passengers including a minor were injured in the accident, an official at the Tribhuvan International Airport told Nepalnews. However, the injuries were not fatal. The injured were later sent to the capital for treatment.
The single engine aircraft, which had taken off at 15:52 pm from Nepalgung, is said to have met with the accident after its brakes failed.
The impoverished Mugu district is an important tourist destination famous for Rara Lake.
