Makalu aircraft crash-lands in Mugu airport; no casulties

A Makalu Air aircraft crash-landed at Talcha airport in Mugu district at 16:40 pm Monday.

The accident occurred as the Cessna Caravan was landing. The aircraft skidded off the airport as it touched down, hit a rock and caught fire, but it was immediately doused by security personnel and locals at the airport.

Captain P.J Shah and nine passengers including a minor were injured in the accident, an official at the Tribhuvan International Airport told Nepalnews. However, the injuries were not fatal. The injured were later sent to the capital for treatment.

The single engine aircraft, which had taken off at 15:52 pm from Nepalgung, is said to have met with the accident after its brakes failed. The impoverished Mugu district is an important tourist destination famous for Rara Lake.

Plane crashes are becoming regular over Nepali skies with the country seeing two fatal plane crashes in monsoon this year.

Buddha Air Beechcraft crashed while landing at the capital’s TIA, killing mostly Indian tourists while Nepal Army transport aircraft also crashed against a hill in Dhorpatan killing two army officers piloting the aircraft, an army woman doctor, a medical assistant, a sick soldier and a relative accompanying the soldier. nepalnews.com
