Leaders to seek five more days to resolve disputes as Hattiban meet fails to arrive at consensus
Political parties are preparing to request the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of parliament for five more days to resolve the contentious issues related to the constitution as a marathon meeting of the top leaders of the three major parties and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) held at Hattiban Resort in Kathmandu failed to arrive at consensus.
Leaders of the UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN (UML) and Madhesi Front held several rounds of bilateral and joint meetings since Sunday afternoon, but they could not reach consensus.
The Constitutional Committee (CC) and the Sub-Committee are holding separate meeting Tuesday afternoon to discuss as to how to go ahead as the deadline set by BAC for resolving the disputes is coming to a close today. Leaders are preparing to demand five more days, according to the source.
According to the BAC action plan, the disputed issues should be resolved through voting if the consensus is not forged by Tuesday.
The leaders had ended the Hattiban meeting with the decision to resume the negotiations from Wednesday. They stayed overnight at the resort, brainstorming over the unsettled issues including the restructuring of the state, form of governance, electoral system, judicial system and citizenship. nepalnews.com
