Parties reach understanding on electoral system, form of governance
Major political parties Tuesday settled all the disputes seen in the constitution drafting process except state restructuring.
The meeting of UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the Madhesi alliance held today at Constituent Assembly building in New Baneshwor settled their difference on the key issues related to the constitution.
“The parties have agreed on the form of the governance and electoral system,” said Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar who is also the chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik).
According to him, the understanding is to adopt the mixed electoral system where President and Prime Minister would share executive powers.
However, the parties are yet to decide the basis to elect the president, define the jurisdiction for PM and President.
Similarly, the parties also reached an understanding to set 60 constituencies in the Upper House and 300 constituencies in the lower house. nepalnews.com
