Indigenous leaders warn of stern protest if their rights not enshrined in new statute
Leaders of indigenous community on Wednesday staged a sit-in before the Constituent Assembly building demanding that the rights of the indigenous groups be guaranteed in the new constitution.
The leaders of the Federal Socialist Movement including Laxman Tharu, Indrahang Limbu, DK Tamang put forth a 24-point demand insisting guarantee of Limbuwan, Khambuwan, Tamsaling, Tharuhut, Magarat, Tamuwan, Khasan and Mithila autonomous states.
Coordinator of the Movement, Sanjuhang Palungwa told RSS that the new constitution should guarantee the federal states with self-governed autonomous political units.
He demanded the government to address their concerns and warned of stern protest if the government turned a deaf ear to their demands. Nepalnews.com
