CA meeting deferred till April 29
The meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) that was scheduled to take place on Thursday has been deferred till April 29. The CA meeting was put off after the political parties were given two more days on Wednesday to sort out the thorny issues related to the constitution drafting process.
As per the constitutional provision, the CA has to settle the disputed issues through voting if the parties fail to reach a consensus.
The major parties have entrusted their top leaders with the responsibility to resolve the disputes by Friday after the Constitutional Committee (CC) gave two more days to the parties to sort out the differences on Wednesday.
The major political parties- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the Madhesi alliance have tentatively agreed on form of governance and electoral system. However, they are yet to reach final conclusion as to what kind of form of governance should be adopted while the issue of state restructuring has also remained unsolved.
Meanwhile, the top leaders of the major political parties are holding discussions to find possible ways to force consensus on the disputed issues at CA building in New Baneshwor. nepalnews.com
