SC turns down writ against ethnicity-based federalism
The Supreme Court on Friday refused to register a writ petition seeking its ruling against federating the country along ethnic line.
A single bench of justice Girish Chandra Lal upheld the decision of the SC registrar office to reject the writ. The bench said the writ could not be taken up as the Constituent Assembly had full authority to the decide on all the matters related to the constitution.
Advocate Tulsi Simkhada had brought up the writ demanding that the court prevent the 'attempts' to federate the country based on ethnic identity. He said that naming of the provinces reflecting ethnic identity would be against the Interim Constitution and the United Nations treaty. nepalnews.com
