Four die, dozens more injured in Janakpur bombing

At least four people died and a dozen others were injured in a bomb explosion at the Ramanand chowk in Janakpur on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Ranju Jha, Jhargu Mandal and Bimal Sharan. All three died on the spot while Suresh Upadhyay, who sustained serious injuries in the bombing, died while undergoing treatment at the Janakpur Zonal Hospital.

Details regarding the age and addresses of the victims could not be immediately verified.

Meanwhile, the injured are receiving treatment at the Janakpur Zonal Hospital and reports quoted doctors as saying that the casualty may rise as the condition of some of the injured is very critical.

Police said the bomb believed to be an improvised explosive devise went off while activists associated with Mithila Struggle Committee were organising a sit-in protest demanding the creation of Autonomous Mithila State at Ramanand Chowk.

Although no group has owned up the responsibility of carrying out the bomb attack yet, police said they are carrying out necessary investigation to identify the perpetrators behind the attack. It is learnt that the police have held an unidentified male under suspicion of being involved in the bombing.

Local news reports said underground outfit Jantantrik Terai Mukti Morcha has owned up responsibility for the blast. Meanwhile, police said they had held a man suspected of being involved in the bombing, but disclosed no further details. nepalnews.com
